Identifying Sub-Floor Issues

Certified Tile and Stone Inspectors

As certified tile and stone inspectors, we are often called to visit job sites and identify problems with floors, countertops, and walls.  In this particular case, we know there is a sub-floor issue by the pattern of the cracks. The sub-floor is the material that gives your tile floor the strength to not crack under normal conditions.

They could have prevented these cracks in the tile by reading the manufacturer’s instructions and spending an additional $15 on fiberglass tape for the seams. Instead, the floor has to be removed, the sub-floor fixed and a new floor installed.  In this case, the client is going to spend approximately $4,500 as well as a week of personal disruption, noise, and a dust.
